Our sessions are suitable for all levels of experience. We have all the materials to start you off and we can advise you before buying equipment.

Overview:
The 6 week term is followed by a week off. Before resuming for the next 6 weeks. There will be longer breaks inline with School holidays at Christmas and Easter with a longer break for summer.
The format of the sessions is to have a talk and demonstration, initially on a particular featured technique, leading into practicing this for the first half of the morning. Followed by a coffee break. The second half of the morning will then be working on a provided subject or an individual subject of your choosing with the option of incorporating the learnt technique. We encourage discussion and learning through shared endeavour, however we will invite guest artists to host some of the sessions to bring variety. In good weather we may paint outdoors in the walled garden.

About the workshop:
We will explore:The materials used, paper, paints, brushes etc. How to use and look after them. The techniques of wet on dry, wet on wet, dragging, charging, glazing, understanding colour mixing and the colour wheel will be covered as well as perspective, shading and contouring plus composition. All will be explained and we will base some exercises around learning these processes whilst painting either from life or photographs of portraits, seascapes, landscapes and architectural studies.
We will look at other artists styles and techniques, there will be suggestions on subjects to choose to paint.
