Time/Duration:

3 days, either 3 consecutive Fridays or Friday Saturday and Sunday

Ability/Requirements:

This course is suitable for all abilities. All materials are supplied.

How to book:

We are taking bookings for courses in late February and March Please telephone or email to reserve your place. We will run the course when we have enough people that can make 3 consecutive Fridays or the 3 day weekend. ( We haven’t succeeded yet! However I haven’t given up trying yet as I have some very keen people on the waiting list and Anthony’s classes are so vey good.
Please note that Anthony can only do Fridays or weekends. We realise that for many people with commitments, this can be a problem. The last day of hollowing out the sculpture for the kiln is done without the live model, so it may be possible to change your final day for an alternative. In this instance, Rosemary is capable of guiding you through the final process.

Overview:

Anthony will guide you through the process of adding clay onto an armature, which provides the framework on which clay is built up to make a likeness of a live model. You will be shown how to take measurements with calipers from working sketches and directly from our model. Later you will be introduced to modelling tools, which will be used to define the features of the head. When the portrait is complete you will be shown how to hollow out the head ready for firing in the kiln.

We provide coffee, tea & biscuits for breaks in the morning and afternoon, giving Anthony a chance to give a talk about famous sculptures, and the methods they used to portray features and characteristics of a model or impose their artistic style into the portrait. A light lunch of soup and sandwich will also be provided, or feel free to bring your own.
